A well of the sweetest water
was ours, unsought; we drew,
and we did drink.
But time went by –
we did not think
to dig it deeper, dig it new.
Our well is dry.
How shall we dig it deeper
now, with these aging hands?
We must not ask.
Strength will be given.
Turn to the task,
find in it heart to understand
what thirst has driven.
